Chelsea House I

The semi-detached house sits on the charming Gilston Road, just a stone’s throw away from the vibrant Fulham Road. The project was a new challenge for the award-winning studio and has pushed the creative boundaries of the team – with Art Deco being a major influence on the interior design. The clients have been working with our studio to create a home that is reminiscent of this wonderful and inspiring era yet with modern elements and technology.

The home has been completely rebuilt with the original brickwork retained as well as the facade restored to bring out its 19th Century characteristics. However, a unique glass box extension has been implemented at the rear which provides a contemporary contrast to the existing architecture. Studio Indigo re-configured the house with a new cantilevered solid stone staircase connecting each floor, becoming the central element of the home. A newly built basement was created to provide a relaxed area for friends and family- it includes a media/games room, a wine cellar with a hand-painted map mural as well as an impressive 17m pool all inspired by the RMS Queen Mary Ocean Liner.
