The Stables

Studio Indigo is delighted to showcase the newly completed refurbishment of the 18th Century pavilion of Ven House in Somerset. Used previously as a Gentleman’s Coach House and Stables, the two-floor pavilion is 1,800 sq. Ft which overlooks a beautiful oak tree, cobbled courtyard and Ven’s Main House.

‘The Stables’ was the third phase within the refurbishment programme of designer and architect Mike Fisher’s Ven House. Internally, the layout was outdated and had been altered to provide two garages with an artist studio above and an abandoned hay loft. The stables were also in poor condition with a many of the historical details lost. To bring this historic space back to life, Studio Indigo reconfigured the first floor into a single-bed guest accommodation housing a kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and en-suite.

The interiors are a beautiful blend of clashing prints and the Owner’s collection of arts and antiques, highlighted by quintessential cottage-like features of wood-panelling, exposed roof beams and timber flooring. The result is a charming British apartment exuding warmth, character and history.

Architecturally, to make the most out of the space the Studio Indigo team created a raised kitchenette at the heart of the apartment, zoning the living/dining area whilst thoughtfully adding privacy to the open-plan bedroom to the west
