A Story of Balance

Guided by an innate curiosity and with a pursuit of timeless beauty, Anna Lisa Stone, Head of Creative at The Glenrothes, spearheaded a quest to honour the remarkable Demijohn 1969 whisky. Referred to as a ‘unicorn whisky’ due to its rarity, Studio Indigo was delighted to collaborate with the visionary Glenrothes team on such an exciting endeavour. Led by Directors and Co-Leads of the Interiors team Olga Fox and Lyne Arbid, alongside Head of Brand, Daniella Perez Herrera, the Studio embarked on a mission to challenge conventions and transcend boundaries through a unique design that would encapsulate our passion for creating story-laden heirlooms and innovative yacht design.

To bring this vision to life, we enlisted the expertise of luxury artisans and friends of Studio Indigo, Little Halstock. Situated in rural Dorset, renowned for their mastery in luxury craftsmanship and creative problem solving, Little Halstock played a pivotal role in crafting Philos.

At the heart of this partnership lies a ground breaking innovation —the world’s first self-pouring decanter-gimbal, named Philos. The name was chosen to honour the Greek inventor of the gimbal, Philo of Byzantium (280–220 BC), infusing the creation with a profound sense of love and friendship.

Drawing inspiration from maritime celestial navigation, The Glenrothes and Studio Indigo looked to the past to shape the future. Armillary spheres and the gimbal converge to form a protective sphere for the precious liquid within. The flawless pour is achieved through a mechanism devised by aerospace engineers, ensuring ultimate precision. Water, sky and the Glen of Rothes topography influence the aesthetic, embracing deep blues and liquid metals to create the perfect backdrop for the whisky itself.

About the Whisky

THE DEMIJOHN 1969

A limited and rare 46-year-old whisky that captivates the senses.

The Glenrothes meticulously crafts small batch, rare whiskies that intertwine poetry with precision in every drop. Almost a decade ago, when the whisky reached 44 Years Old, its cask revealed liquid of unparalleled quality. To preserve its essence, the whisky was delicately transferred into six glass demijohns (jars), ensuring a moment suspended in time. Master Whisky Maker, Laura Rampling, describes the liquid from Demijohn 1969 as a “unicorn whisky’ – one that stops you in your tracks and haunts you with the knowledge that you will never see it again’
