Description

Studio Indigo have gathered much experience over the years working on the Phillimore Estate and have built up good relations with the residents, the Estate and the planning officers responsible for this sort after area of Kensington.

This house, which overlooks Holland Park, had been untouched for many decades and was in need of updating. Its most distinguished feature internally was the magnificent cantilevered stone staircase that lead from the entrance hall but then just stopped!

The house was re-planned internally re-creating a new ‘memorable staircase’ around which all the new rooms were planned. These principle rooms were re-orientated to overlook the west facing garden and Holland Park.

Planning permission was given for a new rear extension and basement leisure complex under the foot print of the main house.

Externally the principle challenge was to restore the main stucco work which was heavily eroded and damaged. Internally period mouldings and details were recreated to reflect the original building.

The new house incorporates all the latest technology, is updated to reflect the needs of a modern large family but remains true to the original Victoria Italianate style villa typical of this part of Kensington.
