This detached single family house occupies a prominent position with unique views of a communal garden. Its architectural quality and rich detailing contribute immensely to the character of the Conservation Area.

A key element of the refurbishment was to reinstate the houses’ original appearance and remove a number of unsuccessful later additions such as dormers, as semi-circular front bay and terrace railings.

The existing layout was reconfigured in a logical and traditional manner to create a newly improved and beautiful family house. In particular, the lower ground floor and the second floor were unsatisfactory with rooms being too small, too low and having insufficient daylight.

From a planning point of view, the challenge was to get permission to raise the roof by almost 600mm to achieve the sufficient storey height, allowing new windows to be added on both sides of the second floor bedrooms. This crucially permitted the removal of the non-original front dormers- helping to restore the houses original style.

… we have been consistently delighted with the results they have produced. Studio Indigo have shown time and again a very bespoke and focussed approach to modernising and elegantly transforming gracious London houses.
