This is a clever little house but one which thinks it is bigger than it actually is! The completed house, although modest in scale, feels rather grand.

Located in a very pretty English street, this terraced house had been badly extended in the 1930’s and again in the 1980’s and was very neglected and unloved. The double fronted house had huge potential because of its unusual width and south facing aspect.

The house was dramatically transformed through clever planning, the creation of memorable spaces, a new basement and lovely south facing garden. The quintessential English qualities of the street and neighbouring houses, (wrought iron railings and balconies, wisteria climbing the exterior and roses in the garden) were all recreated in the rebuilding of this house.

The existing front facade was retained, and a new house recreated behind. Internal spaces were planned to maximise the width of the house and its southerly aspect. Entry into the house is via a new dramatic double height staircase hall providing instant ‘impact’ to the house. Other memorable spaces with character were created, for example the master bedroom and drawing room each with five large south facing windows and bays.

I have entrusted the refurbishment of all my London homes over many years to the skills of Studio Indigo.

They have a great team of architects, technicians and interior designers, and have never failed to deliver me a home of the highest quality and comfort, within budget and to a strict timetable. In addition, their refurbishments have always increased the value of my homes – far outstripping market forces!
